Join us for First Fridays in Starland on Friday, June 7th from 6 – 9PM for a fully loaded evening of open artist studios, paintings by Jeremiah Jossim, the final viewing of Artist Resident Jennifer Lee Hallsey’s site-specific project, and the Sulfur Studios Street Fair with Dark Shark - Taco Attack food truck!

On display in the Gallery: "I’m Always Coming Home" by Jeremiah Jossim, an exhibition of oil paintings made over the last 2 years. These works explore the architecture of home and the importance of the land to our personal sense of place.

ON::VIEW Artist Residency: "Body Out of Order" - Hallsey’s work exists as a discussion of and about process. Authenticity, aura, value, degradation, and entropy are concepts explored. She is captivated by what is lost, what is gained, and what changes. The form is no longer the object(s) presented, but the relationships between each step. The work created during the residency program explores a poststructural analysis of appropriated text, water-based mixed media, and the significance of scale with the human body as a standard of measurement. Small, prayer-style books have been constructed of cut-up method prose and the subsequent text transferred to the residency window using vinyl decals, building and degrading over the 4-week residency period.

Open Artist Studios: As usual during First Fridays in Starland, the public is invited to tour our studios and meet the artists working here. People are encouraged to step into each open artist space, ask questions to learn about the artists and their processes, and purchase any work that may be for sale.

Sulfur Studios Street Fair: Located on 39th Street, between Bull Street and Desoto Avenue. The Sulfur Studios Street Fair will take place every other month during First Fridays in Starland, highlighting different vendors, food truck and artists! (August, October and December 2019)
