Creative Retreat on Ossabaw Island

  • Ossabaw Island State Heritage Preserve (map)

Creative types! Come to Ossabaw Island for a two-night retreat to make art, music or literature on the Georgia coast. Bring your own materials to paint, sketch, write, compose music, or shoot photos on this unspoiled barrier island just south of Savannah. Hosted by the Ossabaw Island Foundation
An Ossabaw Island visit includes excellent art-making inspiration: lush maritime forests and marsh wetlands, 19th- and 20th-century historic buildings, and possible sightings of a variety of wildlife including wading birds and feral hogs, as well as free-roaming domesticated donkeys, and perhaps an alligator.
This two night retreat includes five farm-to-table meals, transportation to and from Ossabaw Island, and transport to remote locations around the island for art-making, including the Boneyard Beach, inner-island tidal creeks and marshes, and the former Middle Place plantation featuring tabby structures from the 1820s, barns from the 1930s and buildings from Genesis Project in the 1970s and 1980s.
