ARTWORK STATEMENT: I was listening to “If We are the Body” by Casting Crowns, and this verse spoke to me: “But if we are the body Why aren't His arms reaching? Why aren't His hands healing? Why aren't His words teaching?” Using any available medium in my home, I created this piece focused on a foundation that is important to all of our lives. I realized that it is not a question of “if”. We ARE the Body. I created the messenger as a reminder to myself that I am to be an example of light to a dark world. To stand in Truth. To shine from the chaos. Brick by Brick, with time, the foundation becomes fully formed and solid. While creating this piece, I realized that not all people will share your views, nor see your light. With time, and from different perspectives, the light will shine bright, so that they may see you are steadfast in your faith and convictions. My subject matter is complex. It is YOU. It is Me. It is the world around us that is struggling to identify. It is about Truth. It is about Faith. It is about what we are doing, or rather what we are not doing. In a world that can be so confusing, it is easy to forget that we must first work on ourselves. We must focus on who we are, as individuals, and build a foundation that is strong in our identity, without trying to conform to the world around us.
