The AOC invites members to gather for a plein air painting session at the Bryan County Fisherman’s Co-op, meeting at 11am for a day of outdoor study and shared creative exchange.
Set against the working waterfront, the Co-op offers a range of compelling subject matter for painters of all disciplines. From the quiet movement of the river along the pier to the textured surfaces of docks and boats, the pavilion’s shade, and the nearby nature trail, artists will find no shortage of compositional opportunities. The setting balances natural landscape with the character of a functional coastal environment—ideal for exploring light, atmosphere, and structure in real time.
This session is free to AOC members and designed to be informal and self-directed. Artists are encouraged to bring their own supplies, portable chair, water bottle, and any materials needed for working comfortably outdoors. Whether you prefer oils, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, or drawing media, the emphasis is on observation, interpretation, and collegial engagement.
Plein air painting has long been valued for sharpening perception and strengthening technical discipline. Working on site requires quick decision-making, thoughtful simplification, and a responsiveness to shifting light and weather conditions. Equally important, it offers the opportunity to paint alongside fellow artists—sharing insight, conversation, and encouragement throughout the day.
We look forward to seeing you at 11am at the Bryan County Fisherman’s Co-op for a productive and inspiring session on the water.
